Medigap Plan J
There are many things not covered by Medicare Part A and Part B. To get help with the costs of these un-covered items, you should look into getting a Medigap policy.
IMPORTANT: This Medigap plan will no longer be sold after June 1, 2010. Plans purchased prior to this date are still active.
Medigap Plan J is one of these types of plans. It has coverage for:
- Co-insurance for hospital costs of Medicare Part A and an extra 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted.
- Co-payments for Medicare Part B coverage (coinsurance) not including preventative care services.
- The first 3 pints of blood.
- Conisurance for skilled nursing facility care
- Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B deductibles
- Excess charges for Medicare Part B
- Co-insurance and co-payments for Medicare Part A hospice benefits.
- Medicare insurance preventative care co-payments (coinsurance) coverage.
- Foreign travel emergency coverage
- At home recovery benefits
- Preventative care that is not covered by Medicare (up to $120)
Note: This plan also has an option for a high deductible plan. With this type of plan, you must pay for Medicare insured costs up to the annual deductible amount of $2000 before Medigap Plan J kicks in and pays.
